Ramsey County offers volunteer opportunities that fit a variety of interests and expertises.
Accounts receivable assistant
Description: Support Accounts Receivable staff by performing timely and accurate receipting and reconciliation duties that are not complicated accounting functions to facilitate timely and accurate documentation of payments received.
Age requirement: Adult (18 or older)
Time commitment: Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of four hours per week for a three-month term. Scheduling is flexible within the regular business hours of the location and is arranged with supervising staff.
Requirements: Post-secondary education or work experience in accounting or bookkeeping.

Accounts payable assistant
Description: Support Accounts Payable staff with manual and time-consuming processes that are not complicated accounting functions to facilitate timely and accurate payments to vendors.

Infant and child activity facilitator
Description: Work alongside communities to provide developmentally appropriate respite activities for parents with children aged birth to five during community outreach and engagement programs: Club Mom, Club Dad, the Birth Equity Community Council and Group Connections/Parents as Teachers. Volunteers commit to leading one 1-hour group per month for six-months.
Age requirement: 18 years old or older.

Entertainer
Description: Provide nursing home residents with musical entertainment during the day. Bring your own musical talent!

Fixer or mender
Description: If you can troubleshoot repairs for broken items, consider volunteering at a Fix-it Clinic. Volunteer fixers who have skills in soldering, electronics repair, electrical repair, sewing, wood working and general tinkering are essential to making the clinics successful.
Ages: Adults (18 or older)
Requirements: Experience in repairing general household items, such as small household appliances, clothing or electronics.
Time commitment: Three to four hours during Fix-it Clinics, which are held one Saturday a month.

Gardener
Description: Adopt a garden area on our grounds and maintain it through spring and fall.
Age requirement: Adults (18 or older)

Interpreter
Description: Assist human services staff to effectively and efficiently serve non-English speaking clients by interpreting and reverse interpreting Karen or Somali and to perform related duties as assigned.
Age requirement: At least 16 years.
Time commitment: Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment. Shifts are scheduled Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Volunteers may opt to be on an "on-call" status.
Requirements: Volunteers must be able to write and speak Karen or Somali.

Meditation instructor
Description: Teach meditation and wellness techniques to incarcerated youth at the Ramsey County Juvenile Detention Center and Boys Totem Town.

Peer advocate
Description: Help Ramsey County Detoxification Center clients understand the center's policies, processes, and program rules; provide peer support to clients and offer informational services to assist with recovery efforts; assist staff in identifying other client and program needs; and facilitate 12-Step recovery meetings.
Age requirement: Adults (18 or older)
Time commitment: Volunteers are asked to make a three-month commitment. Shifts are scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m and 11 p.m.
Requirements: Must have six months of continuous sobriety at the time of the application.

Recreation leader (detox)
Description: Facilitate recreational activities such as cards, games, or crafts, or provide musical entertainment, for clients of the Ramsey County Detoxification Center.
Age requirement: Adult (18 or older)
Time commitment: Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment to the position. Shifts are flexible and are arranged with Detoxification Center staff.
Requirements: Must be committed to supporting persons with alcohol/chemical abuse issues. Possess a basic understanding of alcohol/chemical abuse. Possess a basic understanding of client/volunteer/staff boundaries. Be able to adhere to boundaries as mandated by Federal and State regulations. Musicians must provide their own instruments.

Relaxation and meditation instructor
Description: Provide information to inmates on the benefits of meditation and teach relaxation techniques to help manage stress, anxiety, anger and depression.

Social services assistant
Description: Assist social workers and case aides as they provide services to clients. Volunteers are placed in a variety of service divisions based on the volunteer's skills, interests and abilities as well as the needs of the department.
Age requirement: Adult (18 or older)
Time commitment: Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment to the position. Shifts are scheduled during regular business hours.
Requirements: Post-secondary education in a human services or related program is desirable.

Veterans court mentor
Description: Want to join a team of dedicated veteran volunteers? Help Ramsey County Veterans Court participants change the circumstances that brought them to the criminal justice system. This is a great opportunity for a veteran to help a fellow veteran in need.
Age requirement: Adults (18 or older)
Time commitment: About an hour a week.
Requirements: Must be a veteran of the U.S. Armed forces or National Guard.
