Recorder's Office
The Ramsey County Recorder and Registrar of Titles Office maintains official real estate documents and provides retrieval and reproduction of these records for the public and businesses.
Ramsey County does not provide assistance in the completion of legal forms, nor does the county assume any liability for persons who attempt to complete legal documentation on their own. Once you record a document it is permanent and can’t be removed or altered.
How to record documents
Electronically (eRecording)
Electronic recording enables title companies, lenders, law firms and others to electronically record documents without leaving the office. This is rapidly becoming the preferred method to submit documents for recording. All document types can be eRecorded.

Document standards and requirements

The Minnesota Department of Commerce website provides many commonly used real estate forms at Uniform Conveyancing Blanks.
All documents must:
- Be completed prior to being presented for recording. We provide notary services in our office.
- Be dated.
- Be signed.
- Have a complete and correct legal description. (Do not use the description on the tax statement.)
- Have all exhibits attached and labeled.
- Have a “Drafted by” statement that includes the name and address of the drafter of the document.
- Include the correct recording fee.
- Not be altered. Whiteout and correction tape are unacceptable on any legal document.
- Be acknowledged, which includes:
- Date.
- Legible notary seal
- Notary signature
- Notary commission expiration date
- Names and marital status of signatures being acknowledged. Marital status should indicate single; husband and wife; Person A married to Person B and Person B married to Person A; or Person A and Person B, married to each other.
- If a corporate acknowledgement, include the business name and signer’s official title, and the notary block must indicate that the signature is on behalf of the company.

RecordEASE view documents online
RecordEASE is the county’s commercial product for accessing land records maintained by the County Recorder and Registrar of Titles Office of Ramsey County. For a low subscription fee, users will have access to recorded documents and images in RecordEASE without having to visit our physical location.
Recording Fees & Taxes
All fees charged by Ramsey County for recording documents are specifically mandated by the state. See Minnesota Statute 357.18. Fees must be paid at the time of filing.

Abstract Document or Torrens Memorial: $46
Additional Torrens Memorial: $20 per each additional certificate
Plats and Registered Land Surveys:
- Abstract - $56
- Torrens - $56
Exchange Certificate of Title
- $20 for each certificate canceled
- $20 for each new certificate issued.
Residue or Additional Certificate
- $40 for each residue certificate issued
- $40 for each additional certificate issued
Well Disclosure Certificate: $50
Attested Copies Submitted at the time of Filing: $2
Taxes
Mortgage Registration Tax: Mortgage amount multiplied by .0024
Deed Tax: Purchase price multiplied by .0034. Minimum due is $1.70 for deeds under $3,000
Conservation fee: $5
Minnesota Conservation Fee collected on each instrument where state deed or mortgage registration tax has been paid.
How to obtain copies
The request for copies can be made in person at our office or by mail. Copies can be returned to the requesting party via email or U.S. mail.

Fees
Copy fees must be paid in advance.
- Copies of most Ramsey County documents may be obtained at the cost of $1.00 per page for a plain copy or $10.00 total for one that is certified.
- Certificates of Title are available to the fee owner free of charge. If the requesting party is not the fee owner the cost is $1.00 per page for a plain copy or $10.00 total for one that is certified.
- Copies of plats and CIC’s are available for at the cost of $10.00 total for a plain copy or $15.00 total for one that is certified.
- Certified copies Military Separation documents are available to the service member or other entitled party free of charge.

To make a request
When requesting copies of Ramsey County documents please provide as much of the following information as possible –
- Document name.
- Document number.
- Legal description of property involved.
- Approximate date of filing.
- Grantor/Grantee.
- Certificate of title number (if applicable).
If you need to research or find any of this information, you may do so at the Property Records Resource Center. If insufficient information is provided we may not be able to fulfill your request.
