April 2020: Construction on the new 82,000 square foot indoor turf facility has begun, with an anticipated project completion date of November 2020. The facility will feature a permanent roof structure that will house a full 180’x330’ field that can be split into three practice fields with 115’x200’ of turf area. Each practice field will have sewn in field markings and retractable safety netting to protect players and spectators from stray balls and other hazards. Construction project information for the TCO Fieldhouse can be found online.

February 2020: In early February, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Twin Cities Orthopedics (TCO) for exclusive naming rights of Vadnais Sports Center. Read the full story here.

Ramsey County executed an agreement with Mortenson Construction for the construction phase of the new turf facility at TCO Sports Garden. Construction is anticipated to begin by the end of March and be completed in November of this year.

September 2019: The county has contracted with M.A. Mortenson Company for phase one design-build services as it moves forward with plans for construction of the new Vadnais Sports Center turf facility. The contract includes developing a scope of work and a detailed project budget for an 80,000 square foot turf structure which will house a full-size soccer field.

May 2019: Community engagement was conducted over the last few months. An online survey was used to gather input and ideas for different types of programs, activities and events the new facility could accommodate. Results of the survey highlight feedback and recommendations for use and future community engagement including free turf time for families and children, community and cultural events, and hosting an open house. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Ramsey County is seeking long-term, community-minded title sponsors to support shared financing of the new facility. Consultant services aimed at securing partners have been acquired and this process is moving forward.

January 2019: At a workshop on January 22, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners reached consensus to build a new turf facility with a permanent roof structure. Community engagement will be conducted over the next few months to help refine decision-making around questions such as building size and types of programming that will be supported. The board and county staff will begin examining potential partnership opportunities to support shared financing for the new facility. November 2018: To prevent further damage to county assets and to ensure safety and security are maintained on site, winterization of the dome structure has begun. This process will include removal of damaged turf, disconnecting electrical systems, winterization of water lines, and deflating and removing the damaged dome membrane and cable system. This process is expected to be completed by January 2019.

The Board of Commissioners continue work on determining a future direction for the dome. A decision is expected by spring of 2019.

October 2018: The Vadnais Sports Center dome will not be open for reservations for the end of 2018 and the winter/spring season of 2019.  The Ramsey County Board is working to determine a future direction for the facility. Once a determination has been made a notification will be posted on this site.  In the meantime, Parks & Recreation will be deflating the dome and will keep the site safe and secure.

August 2018:  After assessing damage, the county released a request for bid in search of the cost to repair the dome. Our main goals with the next steps are safety and structural integrity. The county continues to work aggressively to resolve the issue. It is unlikely that repairs will be completed for the 2018 fall season. Once a plan for moving forward is developed, an updated communication will be released.

May 2018: The dome is partially inflated at this time while maintenance crews remove equipment and inspect netting. The dome remains closed for public use.
