The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office provides undergraduate and graduate internships for college and university students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a structured internship program at their educational institution. At present, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office is unable to assist with Service Learning Projects for high school or college students due to staffing resources.
The purpose of the internship program is to allow students an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the fields of law enforcement, public safety, and local government. Internships allow students the opportunity to further explore careers in these fields. Internships are available for both law enforcement/criminal justice and non-law enforcement students.
Interns are not paid. Internships with the Sheriff’s Office may not exceed one year.
Requirements
Interns must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a structured internship program at an accredited educational institution, be at least 18 years of age, pass a personal history and criminal background investigation, and meet the physical requirements reasonably appropriate to the assignment. Additional requirements are provided in the application.
Application process
Prior to completing an application, students must submit a letter from the educational institution indicating the student is enrolled in an internship program. This letter must include the expectations of the internship, including the required hours. The letter must also be signed by the educational institution’s internship supervisor.
