Notary registration is available by mail or appointment.
A Notary Public is an appointed and commissioned officer who serves the public by administering oaths and acting as an official witness to people who need assistance certifying documents.

Registering with your county
If you are a licensed notary public, you must register your commission in the county where you live. In Ramsey County, you can register by mail or in person.
Register in person
Complete the following steps to register your commission in our office.
- Provide the notary certificate or the notary commission card you received from the Minnesota Secretary of State.
- Provide a valid driver's license or state-issued identification card.
- Pay $20 cash, check or money order payable to Ramsey County. We NOW accept credit or debit cards.
Your commission card will be returned to you as registered in Ramsey County.

Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Register by mail
Complete the following steps to register your commission by mail.
- Send the notary certificate or the notary commission card you received from the Minnesota Secretary of State.
- Enclose two notarized sample signatures on a separate piece of paper:
- One signature in cursive that is completely legible sign but not printed, that includes your name as listed on the commission and matches your notary stamp
- One that is your normal signature, which you should use to sign all notarial acts.
- Both of your signatures need to be notarized from another notary (that is not yourself) and stamped on a separate piece of paper. - Enclose a photocopy of your valid driver's license or state-issued identification card.
- Enclose $20 check or money order payable to Ramsey County.
