Mobile sauna permits
Ramsey County Parks & Recreation welcomes mobile sauna operators to apply for a permit to operate at select park locations. Operators must adhere to all county policies and regulations to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable experience for all park users.
Mobile sauna operations are allowed only in designated areas with prior approval.
Apply for a Mobile Sauna Permit
To apply to operate a mobile sauna out of one of Ramsey County’s parks, fill out the application below. Saunas are typically permitted throughout the winter. Sauna permits will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
A fee of 10% of total reservations is assessed based on the total amount collected through sauna reservations while operating in the park system.
Operators planning to bring a mobile sauna to a Ramsey County park must comply with the following conditions:
- Public Access: Saunas must be open to the public through a reservation system or drop-in. Private-use-only saunas are not permitted.
- Hours of Operation: Saunas may not operate between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Designated Use: Sauna units must operate only in approved, designated spaces per permit.
- Prohibited Activities: Alcohol use and illegal activity are strictly prohibited in and around the sauna.
- Insurance: Liability insurance is required. Ramsey County must be named as an additional insured and held harmless for any incidents related to sauna operation. (See insurance requirements during application.)
- Overnight Placement: Units may remain in place overnight unless weather conditions or park staff/public safety personnel request removal.
- Snow Removal: If located on pavement, saunas must be temporarily moved for snowplow access. Operators are responsible for clearing snow around their unit if not relocated.
- Self-contained Operations: All activity must be contained within the sauna trailer. Tents, exterior seating, and other extensions are not permitted unless otherwise approved.
- Trash & Cleanliness: Operators are responsible for collecting and removing any trash left by users.
- Pathway Clearance: Saunas must not block roadways, sidewalks, or trails and must comply with right-of-way rules.
