Ramsey County Planning Internship

This summer internship program, offered in partnership with the University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies, gives undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of degree programs the opportunity to gain experience in a local government setting.

As part of the program, students get the opportunity to bring their unique perspectives, experiences and ideas to departments within the county's Economic Growth and Community Investment (EGCI) service team, specifically the Community & Economic Development, Public Works, and Housing Stability departments and the county’s Health and Wellness service team, specifically the Food Security/Urban Agriculture team. The internship program offers students three months of experience during the summer, with the potential to extend through the end of the academic year. Students from any college or university may apply.

Requirements 

Student interns will perform designated and related duties as assigned in accordance with the student's educational program and the needs of the department to which the student selects. Interns will also form a cohort that meets once per month for educational and professional development activities.

Hours

Ramsey County offices are open 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., daily. Internship working hours are negotiable and dependent upon student schedules and department needs.  

Location

The location in which interns will work is dependent upon where the department is located, as follows:

• Public Works Department (Program Delivery Division): Ramsey County Public Works Facility, Arden Hills
• Public Works Department (Multimodal Planning Division): Ramsey County Courthouse, Saint Paul
• Community & Economic Development Department: Ramsey County Courthouse, Saint Paul
• Housing Stability Department: Metro Square Building, Saint Paul
• Food Security/Urban Agriculture Team: Plato Building, Saint Paul
