Workforce Innovation Board supports Career Connect Day
On October 18, members of the Workforce Innovation Board of Ramsey County (WIB) joined Workforce Solutions and Saint Paul Right Track staff at the Saint Paul RiverCentre for Career Connect Day, hosted by the Saint Paul Area Chamber. The event welcomed 1,600 local 10th graders who had the opportunity to meet with over 90 Minnesota businesses in six different industry tracks to explore a wide range of career pathways including:
- Business, management and administration.
- Agriculture, food and natural resources.
- Arts, communications and information systems.
- Engineering, manufacturing and technology.
- Health science technology.
- Human services.
The Career Connect Day experience reflected the needs of students at increasingly younger ages to envision their path beyond high school. There were more tailored ways for students to volunteer, intern and shape their education than ever before. This experience gave them permission to explore, and encouraged the idea that students could and should create their own path.
Participating businesses learned from the students as well. They spoke with them about two and four-year education options, technical and trades skill sets, and professional careers to entrepreneurial ventures. The WIB was proud to provide funds for bussing so that every Ramsey County high school had their transportation costs covered.
