Navigation Redirects

Drupal pages can only be set to a single location within a menu - this is its canonical location. If a page needs to be linked in the menu in an additional location. a page redirect be created. The instructions below 

  • Edit the page that you need to add a new nav item to that is not its canonical location. Example: Home > Your Government > Leadership > Sheriff's Office > Sheriff's Office Divisions > Administration > Gun Permit Information
  • Go to "URL redirects" tab and add a new URL redirect
  • Enter the path of the location you the new menu item to live, (Example: residents/licenses-permits-records/gun-permits if you are adding the menu item to Residents > Licenses, Permits & Records > Gun Permits)
  • Leave the rest of the settings as default and save. This created a redirect for the page at residents/licenses-permits-records/gun-permits.
  • Go to Structure > Menus > Main menu
  • Add a new menu link
  • Set the path to the location of the new redirect you created above: residents/licenses-permits-records/gun-permits 
  • Set the Parent Link to the new location in the menu you want this item to appear (Example: Residents > Licenses, Permits & Records > Gun Permits)
