Celebrating family and permanency this National Adoption Day
Social Services celebrated National Adoption Day on Nov. 19. Unlike the traditional National Adoption Day (NAD) held around the country where the adoptions celebrated are the ones finalized that day, Ramsey County hosts an event to celebrate all families who have adopted children from foster care in 2022.
Proposed Property Tax Notices have been mailed
About 158,000 Ramsey County property owners will soon receive a Proposed Property Tax Notice. The notice estimates the amount of property taxes owners will pay in 2025 if the county, cities, school districts and other taxing jurisdictions approve their respective budget proposals. Proposed Property Tax Notices will also available online using the property tax and value lookup tool.

On climate justice: The air we breathe
There are two dangerous feedback loops that occur in relation to climate change, air quality and racial and health equity:
- Extreme heat can lead to poor air quality and in turn poor air quality can cause rising temperatures. Data shows that when extreme heat and poor air quality combine, the effect on public health is vastly worse than when either extreme heat or poor air quality occur on their own.
- Health disparities between racial and ethnic communities are worsened by the industries that have caused climate change and climate change in turn worsens disparities in health outcomes.
Fix-It Clinic volunteers share memories of past clinics
For five years, Fix-It Clinics helped residents fix their torn Star Wars socks, jammed sewing machines and shattered Santa Claus salt shakers (to name a few examples), for free. Volunteer “fixers” worked together with the residents to repair their items.
Fix-It Clinics are returning Saturday, Nov. 19, after a two-year hiatus, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
