Ramsey County Proclaims February as Black History Month, Celebrating African American Contributions to the Arts
The board of commissioners has proclaimed February as Black History Month in Ramsey County. "This is about all of us," Commissioner Moran says, "We have a role to play today. It not about just the past. It's how we move forward into the future."
The theme for the 2024 Ramsey County and city of Saint Paul Black History Month observance is "African Americans and the Arts," highlighting the profound contributions Black Americans have made to visual arts, music, cultural movements and beyond. This theme honors the rich tapestry of creativity and expression within the Black community, celebrating their enduring legacy and ongoing impact on our society. February 1986 marked the beginning of National Black History Month, a time dedicated to honoring, recognizing, promoting, and preserving Black history and culture.
