Parks and Recreation with Conservation Corps

During the summer of 2023, the RCSWCD (Ramsey County Soil and Water Conservation Division) had the privilege of hosting three Conservation Corps members who made significant contributions to preventing the spread of invasives in the water and on land. Al Henderson, Zoë Viana Feuer, and Alexis Kreider inspected watercraft entering and leaving area lakes to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS). They also educated the public about how and why to prevent AIS infestations and used a decontamination unit to clean boats.

The RCSWCD was able to manage invasive species at over 100 sites with the help of this terrific trio. The crew members also performed lake surveys to monitor native plant populations to gauge the health of native plant populations and seeded bare pathways at Tamarack Nature Center. The seeding will prevent runoff, stabilize the ground, and provide habitat for pollinators.
