Ali M. Ali appointed Financial Assistance Services Director
Ali M. Ali has been selected as Director of Ramsey County’s Financial Assistance Services (FAS) department. Ali, who has served as interim director of FAS since April 2022, has more than 20 years of experience in service delivery, executive management, and leadership in the public and non-profit sectors.
Prior to his appointment as interim director, Ali had worked for a decade as section manager at FAS, most recently with responsibility for intake and community-based services operations. He has been with Ramsey County since 2005, working in various positions as a financial services worker, supervisor, and section manager.
“Ali’s dedication and commitment to improving our services to meet the needs of community is evident in his service as interim director and from his previous leadership roles at FAS,” said Kathy Hedin, Deputy County Manger, Health and Wellness. “His deep knowledge of department operations and state and federal rules and policies, and experience engaging internal and external stakeholders make him an excellent choice to continue to lead the change underway at FAS.”
Ali has a bachelor’s degree in law and jurisprudence from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt and earned a master’s degree in public and nonprofit administration from the College of Management, Metropolitan State University. He lives in Fridley with his family.
FAS administers programs that provide economic support to single adults and families by helping to meet basic needs. County staff determine initial and ongoing eligibility for economic assistance programs including cash assistance, food support, medical assistance, childcare and emergency assistance.
Ali replaces long-time FAS director Tina Curry who took on a new role within the county in 2022 to work full-time on the ongoing development of the Public Health Career Pathways program.
