County Attorney Public Data
Our goal in providing this data is to increase transparency and accountability with our community. We recognize that achieving public safety and justice for all requires continual evaluation and improvement.
As we transform our system under the leadership of County Attorney John Choi, we see our role as problem solvers, collaborating with community to rethink traditional approaches and policies that have disparately impacted people of color and those with lower incomes, and enhancing our ability to use data to better understand and improve the impact of decisions we make. How we collect and share data is a work in progress, and we welcome your input.
Adult Prosecution
Our adult prosecution team consists of pretrial, trial, and postconviction functions. Our Pretrial Justice division screens cases presented by law enforcement and determines whether charges are supported by the evidence and whether people are eligible for alternatives to justice system involvement in a way that addresses accountability while avoiding the barriers a conviction creates to housing, jobs, education and other needs. Our Trial division responds to adults accused of committing crimes by negotiating plea deals and trying cases in court to achieve justice on behalf of our community and victims impacted by the most serious crimes that occur in Ramsey County. And our Victim, Witness & Postconviction Justice division focuses on supporting victims and witnesses; ensuring postconviction justice through fair sentencing and mitigating collateral consequences of justice involvement for residents when appropriate; and helping rehabilitated residents to seal their records in court.
Youth Justice and Wellness Data
The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office is responsible for responding to situations in which children aged 10 to 17 are alleged to have committed a crime or are chronically absent from school and/or running away from home. Together with community and system partners, we are working to (Re)Imagine Justice for Youth by shifting to a restorative continuum of responses that are developmentally appropriate for youth and incorporate community-based accountability that seeks to repair and heal from harm caused, address root causes to prevent harmful behaviors from happening again, and connect youth and their families with resources and support to strengthen our community and provide safety and wellness for all.
Ramsey County Child Support
Child support is a court-ordered obligation for one parent to provide financially to the other parent/caregiver to help meet their child's basic needs, ensure medical coverage and contribute to any childcare expenses. Our staff works with parents/caregivers to ensure parents are legally determined and orders are reasonably set. We also work with community partners to help support parents with parenting, financial education, job opportunities, housing stability and more. Our goal is to work equitably with both parents to set child support orders that work for families and ensure children have the financial and emotional support they need to thrive.
Performance Dashboard
This dashboard reflects the specific performance measures developed as part of the County performance measures process.
Employee Diversity Equity and Inclusion
We are working to diversify and grow our workforce to better reflect our community in a variety of ways. We have set expectations for our current staff to invest in developing a sense of cultural humility, continuously improving their intercultural skills and undergoing training on implicit bias in hiring before participating on hiring panels. This data reflects the racial and gender demographics of our employees over time.
