Cash Assistance
Ramsey County offers cash assistance to eligible low-income residents through a variety of programs.
Apply for Cash Assistance through MNbenefits.mn.gov. This is the fastest and easiest way to apply.
Please submit only one application. Submitting multiple applications through different channels will delay the processing of your application.
Service Alert
Some SNAP participants are reporting problems with their EBT accounts. If you get SNAP, General Assistance, Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), the MFIP Housing Assistance Grant, Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA) check the balance and call your casework if any problems. Check the EBT card on the day you normally would expect benefits to be deposited. Monitor your card closely before using it.
Due to high volumes, the current processing of applications and wait times are longer than usual. County staff are working to decrease backlogs and may call after business hours and on weekends to conduct phone interviews. Beginning in March, residents can expect to receive phone calls after 4:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Burial assistance
When families need help arranging their loved ones’ final resting place, Ramsey County’s Burial Assistance Program can help with burial expenses. Applications must be submitted within 30 days of the date of death. The county will not reimburse payments already made.

General assistance for low income adults
The General Assistance program helps people without children pay for basic needs. It provides money to people who can’t work enough to support themselves, and whose income and resources are very low. General Assistance provides monthly cash grants for vulnerable persons whose income and resources are less than program limits.
Minnesota Family Investment Program
The Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) assists low-income families with minor children and pregnant women with moving toward financial stability. The program provides food assistance, employment services and income assistance.

Minnesota Supplemental Aid
Minnesota Supplemental Aid provides a monthly cash supplement to people who are older, blind or have disabilities and those who receive federal Supplemental Security Income benefits.

Ramsey County coordinates services to help refugees transition to life in the United States. Services include resettlement and placement, cash and medical assistance, and employment and social services.
