Immunizations for Kids
Learn about the immunizations your kids need to stay healthy and protect them from potentially harmful diseases. To find out which vaccines your child needs, check the list below or call your healthcare provider or clinic for more information.
- Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health Immunization Clinic does not currently offer the RSV vaccine.
- There is a $15 administration fee for each vaccine, however, no child is turned away if families are unable to pay these fees.
Recommended vaccines by age
- COVID-19 (updated 2023-2024 formula): Onde dose for ages 6 months and older. Additional doses for ages 6 months-4 years, depending on vaccination history.
- Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTaP): Five doses starting at age 2 months.
- Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib): 3–4 doses starting at age 2 months.
- Hepatitis A (HAV): Two doses starting at age 12 months.
- Hepatitis B (HBV): Three doses starting at birth.
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV): 2-3 doses starting at age 9 years.
- Influenza ("Flu"): Each year for everyone ages 6 months or older.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): Two doses starting at age 12 months.
- Meningococcal: Two doses starting at age 11–12 years.
- Pneumococcal: Four doses starting at age 2 months.
- Polio: Four doses starting at age 2 months.
- Rotavirus: 2–3 doses starting at age 2 months.
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap): One dose at age 11–12 years.
- Varicella (“Chickenpox"): Two doses starting at age 12 months.

Minnesota has a confidential, electronic immunization registry, known as Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC).

Where can my child get shots?
Contact your child's health care provider or clinic. If you or your children do not have a health care provider, learn more about the Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health Immunization Clinic. Our clinic offers low-cost vaccines for children 18 years and younger who are uninsured or whose insurance does not cover vaccines.

Exemptions
To enroll in childcare, early childhood programs and school in Minnesota, children must show they’ve had immunizations or file a legal exemption. There are two types of exemptions: medical and non-medical.
Medical exemption
This type of exemption may be needed if one of these are true:
- There are documented medical reasons for a child to not receive an immunization.
- There is laboratory confirmation that a child is immune to a disease.
If one or both of the above applies, parents or guardians will need to submit an Immunization form signed by a health care provider that explains the medical exemption.
Non-medical exemption
If a family wants to be exempt from immunization requirements based on their beliefs, the parent or guardian will need to submit an Immunization form explaining why they don't want their child to be immunized. This document needs to be signed by the submitting person and notarized. Get your non-medical exemption form notarized.
